What To Wear For Your Photoshoot
Look, I get it. Dressing yourself in the morning is tough enough when you don’t have to stand in front of a camera and be your best self. Add having to dress a couple of kids and perhaps even your partner, and things can get a little complicated!
But the number one thing I want you to remember is that being comfortable is everything. It’s normal to want to shop for new fancy clothes to wear to a photoshoot. And that’s totally fine if that’s your jam and you’re comfortable with that. But usually the best route is to go with something that’s tried and true. When selecting the right footwear, think about what’s appropriate for the location, and what presents the lowest risk of a sprained ankle. Maybe it even makes most sense to ditch the shoes altogether!
TIP #1 BE YOURSELF
With styling, there's just one rule – be authentically you. Dress up, dress down, or find that sweet spot in between – it's all about reflecting your personality and feeling comfortable in your skin. I want you to shine as your true self, capturing the real moments and genuine emotions.
Forget the pressure to conform or follow trends – this is your time to embrace your quirks, your style, and everything that makes you wonderfully you. I’m here to document your season, preserving the memories of who you and your family are right now, in all your glorious authenticity.
TIP #2 MATCH YOUR OUTFIT
TO THE LOCATION & SEASON
Wear something that’ll keep you cool in summer & warm in winter. You’re more than welcome to bring a couple outfits so that we can play with different options and combinations, and get a little sandy/wet/muddy if you’re game and the moment calls for it! If you have anything in your wardrobe that is textured, sheer, or billowy, fabrics that flow show up so beautifully in photographs because they capture snapshots of movement – avoid starchy, stiff-seeming garments that get crumpled in weird spots and need adjusting. Think through your clothing choices logically based on location, vibe, and comfort level.
Psssst that’s me and my family!

TIP #3 THINK ABOUT THE COLOUR PALETTE
When it comes to lifestyle photography, colour palettes play a key role in setting the tone and mood of your images. Embracing neutrals can be a game-changer, as they create a timeless and versatile backdrop that allows your unique personalities to shine. Think soft beiges, earthy tones, and muted grays, as they effortlessly complement various environments and never go out of style. Neutrals provide the perfect canvas to incorporate pops of colour from the beautiful scenery.
But hey, don't be afraid to be bold and use colour too! Adding a splash of bright hues can infuse your lifestyle photos with energy and excitement, capturing the vibrant moments of your life.

TIP #4 WHAT NOT TO WEAR
Please try to avoid brand names, logos and overt patterns. Subtlety is key and I want the focus to remain on capturing connection and beautiful moments! If you’re unsure, stick to neutral and you'll always be safe!
TIP #5 UTILIZE THE LADIES CLIENT CLOSET
Ladies, I not only do I want you to feel comfortable, confident and beautiful, I totally understand that it’s not always practical to spend lots of money on outfits too. Styling is a key element to amazing imagery. These pieces have been carefully chosen for the client closet because they are classic, timeless, romantic and photograph well. Along with the style guide to best prepare for your session, my clients have access to the client closet free of charge. You can choose two pieces for me to bring along to our session. If you have a partner or children joining you for your session, I recommend choosing your dress as the staple piece and then styling everyone around you.
